FAM Clarify about Cancellation of Three Major Tournaments
Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has officially pulled the plug on three major national competitions for the 2026 season.
The Malaysia Futsal Cup (MFC), the National U-19 Men's Futsal Championship, and the National Beach Soccer Championship have all been wiped off this year's calendar. But before the fans hit the panic button, Wisma FAM says there is a "method to the madness."
According to an official statement released today, the decision wasn't made lightly. FAM cited several "deal-breakers" that led to the cancellation:
- Calendar Clashes: A massive realignment of the national competition schedule.
- Team Fatigue: Considering the heavy commitments of competing clubs and players.
- Logistics & Infrastructure: Ensuring venues and support systems meet the required standards.
Despite the outcry from futsal and beach soccer enthusiasts, FAM insists this is a tactical retreat to prepare for a bigger push.
"This is not a step backward for the development of national futsal and beach soccer," FAM clarified. "Instead, it is a strategic approach to ensure a more organized, sustainable, and high-impact plan can be implemented in the future."
FAM is currently in "Lab Mode," re-evaluating the entire structure of these sports to ensure they meet long-term development goals and hit the "competitive standard" needed to challenge on the international stage.
